.

When it comes to versatility, a Melwood more than fits the bill.

Our structures are designed to be multi-functional and can be used for a large variety of purposes.

Dave and Mel have had their Melwood Porch 18 for nearly a year now, and are demonstrating just how versatile it is for their family.

“…an office, a retreat for the kids and a nice place for my husband and I to put our bike trainer so we can train for our triathlon events!!

This Porch 18 measures 5.4m x 3.2m with an additional porch/decking area of 1.3m x 3.2m. Mel and Dave chose “Woodland Grey” Colorbond® roofing, ‘White’ aluminium windows, a combination of board and batten cladding on three sides, and a feature of pre-primed weatherboard cladding to the front!

We love it! It has added so much value to our life

One of the main reasons why Melwood cabanas and garden rooms are so versatile is that you can customise the design to your specific needs.

Whether it be the size, layout, window/door style or colours, the options are somewhat endless when it comes to creating your very own Melwood!

What if…?

What if you could transform a dull old shed into outdoor living – stylish storage, an inspiring home office, or a vibrant hangout space for the kids? What if you could add visual appeal to the backyard and increase property value?

Better still, what if you could achieve all of the above?

“We absolutely love it; it is that extra space we needed.”

View across pool to shed

A game-changer

When Michelle needed a shed upgrade, she recognised that this was the perfect opportunity to do just that. Yes, she still needed storage, but what if she could combine this with an outdoor living space. One that could serve as a home office for her and a teenage retreat for the kids?

Upon coming across our Melwood range of backyard spaces, it was clear that she had found exactly what she was looking for. Setting out to explore this further, Michelle’s journey began.

And it’s been a game-changer.

The ultimate shed into outdoor living transformation

Michelle came to her first Design Consultation prepared, measured up, and with a vision in mind. Knowing what she wanted, and where, made it even easier to hit the ground running. The opportunity to get up close and tactile with the many design and personalisation options made the design process very easy. “Being able to walk through and touch the display rooms was very helpful,” she tells us.

All Greenspan projects can be fully personalised, and Michelle was grateful for this ability to make her Melwood unique.  From floor size and wall height to colors and cladding, the options are numerous. Windows, doors, decks, and verandahs can be added, repositioned, or removed.

As she explored the many design options, Michelle embraced the freedom to create the exact look and feel she wanted. “The team were very patient with our number of changes we wished to make as we progressed our planning process,” she tells us.

Upgrading the shed upgrade!

Michelle selected a Melwood Mod 15 as her nominal design, upgrading two sides to pre-primed weatherboard cladding, and adding an additional door and windows to fully maximise natural light. What we love most is the way she added a barn door to her design. This adds a stylish aesthetic to the structure while cleverly concealing a dedicated separate storage area.

Potential unlocked

The remainder of Michelle’s Melwood footprint is a beautiful, light-filled outdoor living space…and the very definition of versatility. By day, it is a distraction-free home office, a place where Michelle can physically and mentally separate work from home. At the weekends it’s the kids’ domain for hanging out with their friends and enjoying its poolside position. The ultimate teenage retreat, it’s also strategically located right by the pizza oven!

Beyond its aesthetic appeal and functional versatility, the addition of a garden room has allowed the spare room in the house to be reclaimed. It’s a win-win, with extra living areas both indoors and out.

From go to whoa!

The transformation from lackluster shed to inviting and multi-functional outdoor living and storage happened seamlessly. Michelle describes the process as “fast and easy,” demonstrating that an initial dream can be brought to reality simply and quickly.

It’s clear to see that multiple aspects of this family’s life have been enhanced – this ultimate shed upgrade has been a real game-changer.

Michelle’s Melwood is a Mod 15 measuring 5.4m x 2.6m with a deck measuring 5.4m x 1.3m.

Board and Batten cladding is a standard inclusion to two sides, with an upgrade to pre-primed weatherboard cladding to the remaining two.

Aluminium windows are in “White” and Colorbond® roofing is in Woodland Grey. Flashings are “Surfmist” Colorbond®.

Michelle further personalised her design with the addition of a single barn door and extra windows.

All measurements are approximate.

Meet the Tuckers

For years, the Tuckers had driven past one of the Greenspan Display Centres admiring the range of functional and stylish PreCrafted buildings on offer.

So, when the time came to landscape their garden and pool surroundings, they knew immediately where to head.

“We knew that a Melwood cabin would be the perfect size to create a pool house area,” Chris and Katrina tell us.

“Our experience was brilliant…
Very easy!”

Designing the dream pool room

After so much time dreaming of their own garden room, the Tuckers excitedly embarked on their journey to create the perfect pool house. And they found this to be a very easy process.

The first step was a Discovery Call with a Design Solutioneer; a consultation to fully understand their needs and find exactly the right solution. Establishing that a Mod 13 would be the ideal starting point, the Tuckers customised its dimensions to fit the space they had designated next to the pool.

Personalising the vision

Next, it was time to personalise. “The fun part was choosing the design features,” Chris and Katrina reflect. Opting for an upgrade to pre-primed weatherboard cladding to one side, they also added additional timber sidelights to the standard inclusion of a double-hung window, double doors, and highlight windows. This ensured a light, bright, and airy interior, ideal for looking over the pool and connecting with the surrounding garden.

To complete the journey, the Tuckers’ installers knew exactly what fitout would complement their vision, with Chris and Katrina telling us they “were fantastic to deal with, bringing lots of great design ideas”.

A hub of activity

The addition of the Tuckers’ Melwood cabana is more than the aesthetic feature they dreamed of for all those years. With growing, playful kids, the Tuckers’ Melwood has been an invaluable extension to their house. “Not only is it a beautiful addition to our back garden, it has been a significant addition to useable space in our home,” Chris and Katrina explain.

As a pool house, it really comes into its own in summer. Chris tells us it has become a dedicated area for the children to play games, watch TV, and unwind with their friends after a swim. The whole family enjoys relaxing in its shade when the temperatures rise and holding poolside movie nights on balmy evenings.

The charm doesn’t fade in cooler months when the pool room is still much-loved and used. The Tuckers have added a wraparound deck and a fire-table, creating the perfect setting for toasting marshmallows – a family favourite.

No room for improvement

The Tuckers’ Greenspan journey didn’t end when they finally brought their dream to life. We take immense pride in our craftsmanship and are genuinely invested in each and every one of our builds. We love revisiting our customers to see how they are enjoying their spaces years later – just like we did with Chris and Katrina.

And when asked what we could do to improve the customer experience, there wasn’t much to say except, “Our experience was brilliant, even the after-sales service years after purchasing the Melwood has been incredible”.

With this being our aim every single time, we’re thrilled to hear it!

The Tucker’s pool room is a custom Mod 13 measuring 3.7m x 3.6m.

It features Board and Batten cladding to three sides with a pre-primed weatherboard upgrade to the fourth. Two additional fixed glass sidelights were added to the standard inclusion of double doors, highlight windows and a double-hung window.

Colorbond® roofing is in “Surfmist” and aluminium windows are “White”.

All measurements are approximate.

Less is more.
The key is keeping things simple.

This was definitely the case for Richard and Becca, when expanding their family’s living space into the backyard with a Mod 12. With tricky backyard access, this was a much easier solution to a traditional build.

“We needed extra space, we have four bedrooms and they are all in use.”

Easing the growing pains

This South Sydney family were quickly outgrowing their home. All four bedrooms were in use and the children were growing up fast! A shift to hybrid working conditions for Richard was the catalyst to look at adding space with a garden room. “We needed somewhere that could function as a workspace, chill out space and storage space,” Richard says.

With a particular spot in mind and challenging access to it, Richard started investigating easier solutions to a traditional build. A PreCrafted, modular garden room was an obvious choice.

Wanting the security of a reputable local company, Greenspan was an easy decision for the couple!

The path of least resistance

“We looked at lots of options,” Richard tells us. But it was Greenspan who offered the ease that they were looking for. “Most boiled down to a ‘Lego set of construction materials’ that you basically had to build yourself,” Richard says. The Melwood Mod 12, however, combined a quick and easy build with compact, yet functional, style.

It was just as important for the design process to be straightforward too. Richard describes their Greenspan design experience as “excellent,” thanks to being able to see the finished product virtually. As is the case for any Greenspan journey, they knew exactly what they were getting!

The next critical stage was also made easy. PreCrafted in our Sydney factory, the couple’s Melwood arrived ready to install. And their tricky battle-axe block was of no concern to our delivery team who took it all in their stride. Although aware that installation would be an efficient process, Richard tells us his ‘mind was blown’ at how fast his new garden studio reached lock-up stage – in just hours!

The beauty of streamlined style

The Melwood Mod is a design that embodies modern simplicity and elegance. Guided by this, Becca and Richard set upon finishing touches to match, with a clean, white colour theme inside and out.  And the look flows seamlessly onwards; surrounding garden beds are topped with white stones and the sparkling blue of the adjacent pool is highlighted by natural stone paving. The result is a streamlined garden retreat that connects inside and outside with ease.

Size doesn’t matter

This Mod is approx. 12 square metres but that doesn’t mean any compromise on functionality. The design and PreCrafting of the couple’s Melwood was meticulously planned and so was furnishing it for use. Every inch of space is optimised.

Containing a sofa bed, large side console, table and sit-stand desk, internally the studio serves multiple purposes. Yet the space is uncluttered, light, bright and very practical.

Freeing up the family lounge, the cabin is now Richard’s home office several days a week. A spare bedroom when needed, it is a popular teenage hangout in the evening. And it’s also a favourite sunny spot for Fred, the family pup! Fronted by a wall of glass, with two doors, sidelights and highlight windows, the room is filled with natural light. And the view…!

Less is more

There’s no doubt that this family’s life has been enhanced with this Melwood. With no spare room in the house, every family member – including the dog – now has a peaceful place to escape to. Whether to work, chill-out, or snooze in a sunny spot – we’re looking at you, Fred! – this cabana is simply the best!

The Melwood Mod 12 measures 3.6m x 3.2m. Upgrades include two timber sidelights, and pre-primed weatherboard cladding to one side. With no requirement for decking, this was omitted from the design.

Richard and Becca further personalised the look with white aluminum windows and Colorbond® roofing in “Shale Grey”.

The many and changing needs of Jamie’s family of seven have well and truly been met over the years by her double Melwood investment.

A creative studio, a home office, a teenage retreat, a spare bedroom…and more. This versatile cabana has evolved with the family as their needs have changed.

“I didn’t find my happy place, I created it…”

A creative haven

Jamie is the talented creative behind the sensational Macramé arts and supplies of @jac.home.heart. Her initial investment in two Melwood Verandahs was with her rapidly growing business in mind – a smaller cabana for storing her supplies and a larger creative studio to use as a workshop. With business booming, the ability to retreat from the house to a dedicated space to create was becoming a necessity. “I was working inside the home. I was taking up the whole house, so I was getting on my family’s nerves a bit.” Jamie explains.

The unexpected twist

Little did Jamie know how valuable these two garden cabins would become.

Cue 2020.

With lockdown upon the country, and seven people under the same roof 24/7, Jamie’s creative studio took on an additional role as husband David’s home office. With no other space in the house, David was using their bedroom to work from home. As Jamie says, “Your bedroom should be where you relax, not where you do your high-stress corporate job,” so this needed to change.

Tired of army crawling through her bedroom while David was on a Zoom call, Jamie generously set aside a spot in her spacious Verandah 20 for his daily workspace. And that meant that David also no longer needed to worry about the noise of the kids in the house while he was working. Plus, at the end of a long day of online schooling, the kids also had a retreat in which to escape from the hustle and bustle of a full house.

”It started with the cabanas then we worked our way from there.”

Not just practical space for her artistic pursuits, the cabanas also formed the inspiration around which the future garden was formed. Several years on from installation, the two studios now sit adjacent to a dream pool and amongst well-established planting. The perfect backyard playground for this growing family, complete with an outdoor hangout room where the twins can enjoy gaming and watching shows.

An evolving family

Continuing to prove how versatile their Melwoods are to the family’s evolving needs, the larger studio now houses a sofa bed and also serves as a tranquil and private bedroom for Jamie’s now adult daughter‘s occasional overnight stays – her preference to sleeping under the main roof. It is also set to once again become a separate office with Jamie due to soon start a new job working from home.

Beyond investment

Jamie is also looking further ahead, recognising the longer-term value of her investment in additional outdoor living and storage spaces. “When we sell our house, we’ve got this beautiful extra space out the back. Anyone would love it.”

Ultimately, the value goes beyond financial. Time and time again, these two outdoor spaces have proven their worth, enhancing the family’s life and seamlessly adapting easily to changing times and evolving needs. Integral to Jamie’s business, offering a peaceful work-from-home environment, a retreat for family comfort and relaxation, and the heart of their dream backyard – the true value of these Melwood Verandahs lies in the ability to enhance family life every single day.

Jamie’s storage room is a Melwood Verandah 11, measuring 5.4m x 2.0m, with the verandah spanning 5.4m x 1.3m.

The larger cabana is a Melwood Verandah 20, which measures 6.3m x 3.2m, with a verandah spanning 6.3m x 1.3m.

Both feature Board and Batten cladding, Colorbond® roofing in “Woodland Grey” and “White” aluminium windows.

All measurements are approximate.

As an avid hobbyist, Teena needed a dedicated space away from the family home to pursue her passion for arts and crafts.

With space in the couple’s home at a premium, a custom-made hobby room was the ultimate gift from husband, Les. And this provided Teena with a much-needed sanctuary to do what she loves best.

Verandah with chair and flowers

“Everyone that comes to our house says, ‘Oh, you’re so lucky”, and I say ‘You should get one!’ I recommend it to everyone.”

The right look and feel

“We have a small house, and I like arts and crafts, so we decided to look for a free-standing room to solve the problem,” Teena tells us.

The Melwood Verandah 15 was the perfect solution. The personalisation process allowed for Teena’s wish for a cute cottage look and craft room feel, fitting seamlessly into the backyard and complementing the main home.

Double doors and sidelights allow the internal space to be filled with natural light, filtered from the harshness of the sun by the front verandah.

Inspirational

The spacious decked verandah is also Teena’s favourite place to relax and take a break from her arts. “I eat my lunch on the verandah here at the studio. I love it. It’s inspirational.”

And with all this surrounding inspiration, Teena has been motivated to learn new skills, teaching herself macramé in her dedicated creative studio.

‘Grandma’s special room’

Space and inspiration aren’t the only benefits of this garden studio for Teena and Les.

Grandchildren are regular visitors to the house and Les wanted to give Teena the freedom to enjoy her creative pursuits without worry or fuss. “He said I want to set up your art or sewing without having to pack it up if the grandkids come for dinner,” Teena explains. Now Teena can simply stop mid-project to enjoy that precious family time.

It also means safety for the little ones. With all creative activity taking place in the dedicated craft studio, anything dangerous can be kept securely out of sight and reach. As ‘Grandma’s special room’, the grandkids know to ask permission to come in. So, now they can enjoy doing their own arts and crafts with grandma.

Loved to bits

Our personalisable range of PreCrafted portable structures made it quick and easy for Les to gift Teena her dream space.

And she loves it to bits!

Teena’s craft room is a Melwood Verandah 15, with timber double doors and sidelights, and “Woodland Grey” Colorbond® roofing. Internally it measures 5.4m x 2.6m, with the verandah spanning 5.4m x 1.3m.

We all know the wet, unusable corner of the garden that we never like to visit.

It was a waste of space. But Chris transformed it into a home office, achieving his dream of working from home without getting in the way of his partner.

“The journey to buy a Melwood was actually very good…The process could not have been easier.”

Work-life separation

Chris’ partner, is a school teacher, so she spends many hours at home during his usual 9-5 work schedule. Although they love each other’s company, when it comes to work, separate dedicated spaces for Zoom meetings and school tutoring is a must.

After a bit of research, Chris discovered the Melwood range of garden rooms. It was the quick and easy way to turn that dead space in the back garden into a thriving home office.

“I can now separate work from home life. When I shut down the computer at 5 o’clock and walk up to the house, I feel relaxed and ready for the next part of the day,” Chris tells us.

Daytime structure

The space is filled with natural light. And to maximise this, Chris has set up his desk in front of the two large windows which overlook the sprawling garden. The other end is set up for his partner, Stella, to conduct her after-hours tutoring.

The addition of a double sofa bed and TV provides the perfect divider between the two working areas. And doubles as overflow accommodation when guests come to stay.

“It has brought structure to my days. During school holidays I am now completely out of the way,” he explains.

Chris has installed a light in the window that automatically shows when his computer is in a meeting, so everyone knows when they can disturb him.

Dead space to home office

Reminiscing, Chris looks back on his journey with Greenspan. He searched many places to try and find a good, solid solution for his home office. Ultimately, he kept coming back to his Design Solutioneer at Greenspan.

“There was never any pressure, just helpful advice. I kept ending up back with him and realised that the big selection and good prices meant that I should probably use Greenspan.”

What was a wasted space in the garden, overrun with weeds, is now a lovely home office.

It has certainly increased the value of the property!

Chris chose the Melwood Mod design No. 15, measuring 5.4m x 2.6m with large windows to the front and side, maximising his view of the garden. He personalised his design with sustainable hardwood cladding and colonial style 10 lite timber doors, creating a Hamptons-inspired design aesthetic.

A peaceful place for clients and guests.

Amanda’s Melwood cabana home office exudes a calm ambience, with natural timber colours contrasted by textural accents. Boasting a coastal view, what more could you want from a backyard retreat?

“I love working from home. If I didn’t have the cabana, it would be very difficult to have clients here. It’s invaluable.”

A peaceful meeting space

“It’s like a time-out room. When I’m in here, I feel like I’ve gone to work because I’ll be up here for hours. Then, I re-enter the house like I’ve driven to work,” Amanda tells us.

As a counsellor, Amanda needed a dedicated private space away from the main house. It was important that this space provided a peaceful environment for meeting her clients.

“It’s been very beneficial for us…It’s lovely to have a separate space for the clients I have,” she says. “Working in a peaceful environment and doing counselling sessions makes a huge difference to how vulnerable people want to be.“

Impressive design flexibility

The multipurpose Melwood has enabled Amanda and her family to make use of the dead space at the top of their steep yard, and it has also become the main entertaining area in summer.

Amanda chose the Melwood Mod Design No. 20, with additional glass doors across the front to maximise the coastal view. She personalised her design with wrap-around decking, Board and Batten cladding, and custom highlights; an aesthetically pleasing way to maximise the natural light inside her studio.

“I was impressed by the flexibility of the design,” Amanda recalls.

Calming aesthetics

Painting the cladding white to mirror her aluminium windows and “Surfmist” Colorbond® roofing, Amanda has accentuated the coastal feel by enhancing the natural timber tones of her doors and pine decking, providing a calming design atmosphere, essential for her clients.

“It’s high-level anxiety when they arrive. But, by the time they walk up to the cabana, everyone immediately says, ‘I feel so much more relaxed,” she explains.

Not just a home office

With the addition of a beautiful decking area to the side, Amanda’s Melwood has become more than just a home office. It’s the perfect space to have a few drinks with friends whilst enjoying the breathtaking views and ocean breeze.

“In summer, I have the whole cabana open if we are having drinks or entertaining, and even when I work,” Amanda tells us. “It’s so peaceful. That’s a comment I get a lot.”

Amanda chose the Melwood Mod Design No. 20, with additional glass doors to the front.

When Julie’s father, Jim, passed away in 2018, she wanted to create a place where she could feel close to him.

A Melwood was a natural choice.

“Sometimes I feel like he is here with me, and it’s a happy feeling because it’s a peaceful place to honour his memory.”

Right as rain 20 years on

When Julie purchased her property, little did she realise the history that came with it; a Melwood, still going strong and right as rain, 20 years on. But there were two problems.

The existing shed on her property sat just above the water’s edge at the bottom of her garden. “When I had a good look cleaning up the old one, I saw a little plaque that said Melwood on it,” Julie explains. It had been installed in the 90s and used to hold kayaks and swimming gear. But it was just a little too small.

The second problem was a relatively easy obstacle…the colour. A fresh coat of paint would have fixed that in a jiffy, but it would still be too small.

“It was still in perfect condition. It was just that we wanted something a bit bigger and in a different colour,” sums up Julie.

A tribute

Julie wanted a space that was a tribute to her late father in the place that he loved. Somewhere she could also enjoy a few drinks with friends, and reminisce about enjoying a glass of wine with her dad.

“Dad used to love to come down here, have a drink, and watch the kids in the water,” she remembers wistfully.

Impossible access? Think again!

However, albeit beautiful, Julie’s backyard was not level or flat, or even slightly sloped. Curved stone steps grace the side of the cliff edge yard that leads to the clearing just above the water’s edge. A welcome view at the bottom, but a builder’s nightmare.

Just think of the step count after carrying down just the framing timber, let alone the cladding, insulation, roofing, windows, and fastenings. ‘Leg Day’ just got a whole new meaning!

Think again. Melwood, a PreCrafted space solution, installed and weatherproof in a day – you might say how?

Julie was blown away by how quickly her new Melwood would be up and ready to use. “The house took 18 months to renovate. I couldn’t imagine that this went up in one day,” she recalls.

Julie now had a space where she could still store her kayaks, but also enjoy the thunderstorms from the comfort of her verandah. A place where she could work away on her handmade art in peace, away from the house and the kids…a long steep way away!

Cheers to the good times

“We purchased it with the money from Dad’s will…He loved it here in this spot, so we called it ‘The Jim’,” Julie tells us.

What a tribute to the many good times previously. A space where Julie can feel connected with her father, away from the day-to-day distractions of life. Recalling the past, “Dad would be so proud, he would love it here. We spend time doing what he loved best which was having a glass of wine,” Julie says.

‘The Jim’, now a household name in the neighbourhood, has become a frequented place for after-cruise drinks. And what a great way to honour her father’s favourite spot and activity.

Julie tells us, “My friends say ‘we’re going to ‘The Jim’ for drinks.’ When we’re out on the boats, we’ll move on to ‘The Jim’ as an after-party.”

And now, as Julie’s mates congregate around the cabana, drinks are on, and it’s cheers to you, Jim!

Coastal vibes for a waterfront location

Julie chose the Melwood Verandah Design No. 12, measuring 3.6m x 3.2m, featuring cedar weatherboard cladding, and personalised windows/doors.

She also added an internal partition wall and side door, creating a separate space for storage of the kayaks and lifejackets. She also added a window in this separate space for ventilation, given the soggy atmosphere that accompanies wet storage.

The mother-of-two has made the cabana look like a natural extension of the house. With a pale grey exterior cladding contrasted by white accents of doors and windows, Julie has achieved an ultimate Hamptons coastal vibe throughout.

The journey to honour Jim

“I have loved the verandah; even when it’s pouring rain, I can sit in here, and it’s a protector. It never gets wet in here, and it’s beautiful to sit here in a thunderstorm with the doors open…It was the best decision I made because I nearly didn’t have the verandah, but I’m so glad I did.”

Julie affectionately recalls her Melwood journey;

“It was just after the passing of my dad. It was a sensitive time, and I wanted it to be perfect…It was such a good experience…They were so friendly to work with, and I wanted options to have the view to wrap right around.”

What a great honour to be involved in this special project with Julie – a tribute to her late father Jim.

Adam and Jacqueline faced the challenge of working from home whilst sharing the same space with their teenage boys who wanted to watch TV and play games.

A familiar experience that many parents shared over the course of the COVID lockdowns,
but one that was overcome with a Melwood.

“We knew we wanted a backyard room and we liked the look
of the eSpace.
Greenspan also seemed to make the process really easy.”

The drawcard

Adam was drawn to Melwood after being recommended by a friend. He needed a separate space for the boys to enjoy their afternoons without having to keep the noise down or worry about disturbing their parents’ work schedules.

“We both work from home and so often the kids were coming home from school and wanting to watch TV or play games in the house and it would be disruptive to our work day,“ Adam explains.

Home improvements

Adding a Melwood to Adam and Jacqueline’s backyard has enhanced their family lifestyle. The kids now have their own space to relax, whilst still in the safety of their own backyard, and Adam and Jacqueline can enjoy working from home in the now peaceful atmosphere!

“Now they hang out in the back room and do that and we can’t even hear them. It’s great, it has made our afternoons much more serene and peaceful.“

Getting there

Adam found his journey with Melwood to be a really easy and quick way to add the space he needed to his backyard.

“It was great that we could drive 10 mins down the road and have a look at an example of one and speak to a real person,” he recalls.

“The process was great. Working with Franky was really good. He came out to our house, had a look at the backyard and was able to talk through some possibilities. He showed us a model right there on the iPad which was great too.“

Adam chose the eSpace 1900, measuring 5.4m x 3.8m with premium vertical Cedar on the front two facades, and our sustainable eco-hardwood on the rear facades.

Adam also personalised his Melwood with “Black” aluminium windows/doors and Colorbond® roofing in “Nightsky”.

All measurements are approximate.
