More than just a garden room

A garden room doesn’t just have to be a place to store unused tools or furniture – it can be an oriental tea-house, a dedicated music room or even a pottery studio!

Recent years have seen a boom in stylish garden rooms. Fitted with all the modern comforts, these outdoor structures become a place to spend time in.

Here are some of the more intriguing uses we’ve seen for our Garden Rooms – perhaps one will inspire you to create your own!

An Oriental Tea House

Helen’s Oriental Tea House is more than just a focal point in her garden; it’s a personal haven.

A place to spend time with friends, or time alone; reading and writing.

Helen has added gold cornices, decorative lanterns, and painted the timber doors bright red to create an Oriental theme.

Helen’s cabana is the Melwood Verandah Cabana No.10 (3.6 x 2.6m + 1.3m verandah).

Inside, she has painted the timber beams black, and inserted cream fabric panels.

Fabric panelling is a fantastic design choice & a pretty alternative to traditional plasterboard!

Stunning custom fabric panelling

“When I chose the Melwood cabana I wanted a basic style that I could further develop and transform into the lovely ‘She Shed’ that is now the perfect outdoor retreat for me and where I can do my work and gives me hours enjoyment as a place where I can read and write while also enjoying the garden.” – Helen, ACT

A Sleek Bonsai Studio

Another oriental-themed garden room is this bonsai studio.

Paintwork, smooth plywood lining and decorations are used to great effect.

A Pottery Studio

For over 20 years, [intlink id=”4210″ type=”post”]Jenny [/intlink]dreamt about one day having a pottery studio big enough to turn her hobby into a profession.

Within a few weeks of discovering Melwood, Jenny had her studio delivered and was able to fulfil her lifelong dream.

Jenny has now been able to retire from her full-time job to pursue her passion for pottery.

She has been accepted into a couple of exhibitions to display her work and is looking to study a Bachelor of Fine arts.

Jenny also enjoys social occasions where her friends come over to her house to have a pottery making session and finish it off with a glass of wine on the porch of her cabana.

The built-in bench has helped in creating her perfect hobby space.

A Dedicated Lego Room

An avid Lego fan, Mark spends his spare time assembling large, colourful creations.

Like many of us, Mark had just one problem standing between him and his hobby. Space.

By having a council-exempt Melwood Workshop installed in his backyard, Mark was able to add the space needed for his hobby room.

Drum Practise Room

As anyone with musical housemates will tell you, it’s both a privilege and a punishment to be under the same roof as them.

It’s beautiful having live music. Hours of it, however, is another thing altogether.

This is where a separate music studio comes in.

This is valuable for musicians who are wanting to record, or play, uninterrupted.

By installing a dedicated music studio in the backyard, Scott is able to play the drums without disturbing the rest of the family, or having them disturb him!

And, when desired, friends can be invited into the backyard music studio for social get-togethers. It’s a win-win!

A Cozy Cabin the Mountains

Installed on the side of a mountain in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, this garden room takes the prize for Best View!

Our friends at the truffle barn shared us this picture from inside their Mod Cabana.

A Personal Massage Room

Whether you’re setting up your own personal day-spa, or just want somewhere cozy to relax, a backyard studio is ideal.

Away from the noise & distractions of others. Step inside, close the door & find your zen.

From an Oriental Tea House to a personal massage room, these garden rooms show just how useful it can be to add some space to your property.
